    Biography

    • Dr Martyn Harris is a Lecturer and Programme Director in Computer Science with research interests spanning data science, digital humanities, AI, and natural language processing. His work explores how computational methods—such as time series analysis, sentiment analysis, and bibliometric modelling—can help us better understand online discourse, cultural heritage, writing systems, and academic impact.

Martyn’s research is distinctly interdisciplinary. He has published on topics ranging from pandemic-related sentiment on social media, to the discovery of parallel texts in historical archives, and the development of novel bibliometric indices. He also has a long-standing interest in marine science and ancient writing systems, where he applies computational tools to understand environmental data and decipher undeciphered scripts.

He is particularly passionate about the responsible use of AI and data technologies aligned with broader global challenges, and increasing diversity in Computer Science.

Martyn teaches and designs postgraduate modules in Applied Machine Learning, Object Oriented Programming, Information Security, and Data Management for the University of London Worldwide MSc Computer Science programme.
